Moumita Dutta is an Indian Physicist, who works as a scientist/engineer at the ISRO’s Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad. She played an instrumental role in The Mars Orbiter Mission, also known as Mangalyaan, launched on 5 November 2013.

Moumita grew up in Kolkata, and while she was studying in 9th standard, her interest in physics began to grow when she studied light during an experiment at school. Following this, she completed her M.Tech degree in Applied Physics at the Rajabazar Science College, University of Calcutta.

Career
Moumita joined Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad in 2006. She has worked on projects like Oceansat, Resourcesat, HySAT, Chandrayan I, and Mars Orbiter Mission. She specializes in miniaturisation of gas sensors and has worked as the Project Manager for the Mars mission. She was tasked to carry out R&D of first-of-its-kind sensors to detect methane on Mars.
Moumita has also worked for the “Make in India” initiative with her team to develop optical instruments indigenously.
Awards
She has won the ISRO Team of Excellence Award for the Mangalyaan project.
